Journey of a Friend: Fighters Spirit & The Winner.
Journey of a Friend: Saturday 11 February 2012 saw Viali Klitco fight Dereck Chisora for the WBA World heavy weight championship. With all the publicity surrounding the Klitco Chisora fight and the subsequent after fight brawl between Chisora and former heavy weight champion David Hay-led me think about how the less publicised part of the fight game such as prize fighting and the individuals who box for fitness reasons. Most fighters represent the sport in a positive manner by conducting themselves in a exemplary manor in and out of the ring, but the few incidents of poor behaviour and tragic incidents, such as the Tyson Holyfield,Ben McClenalan fights seem to always grab the headlines. With this in mind I thought it would be a good time talk and show some images which where taken during the lead up to a prize fight.
Over a year ago I embarked on a project following a friend who decided to take up prize fighting. Journey of a Friend followed the East Side Warrior before and during his second fight, Errol always had a strong spirit but it took the break up of his marriage and a urgent need for money and a love for the sport of boxing to push him in the direction of prize fighting. Many friends and family thought he was mad to be undertaking this at the age of 42. He was always a hard worker and looked after himself physically but fighting would call for a different type of training regime. Before his fights Errol undertook a strenuous training regime led by 4 times kick boxing World champion Chris Mc Neish at Peacocks Gym London. Only time would tell if this would be enough to see the 42 year old to victory.
